Eratosthenes festival takes place on 21 June every year, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and in Aswan city and is designed for the preparatory school students. It has become an annual event that the Planetarium Science Center (PSC) of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) organizes to honor the outstanding third Librarian of the ancient Library of Alexandria.

The festival celebrates the Greek scientist Eratosthenes by conducting his 2000 years old experiment to measure the earth’s circumference. The event will include a series of activities that revolve around Eratosthenes methodology in measuring the earth’s circumference. It will comprise a videoconferences between Alexandria, Aswan and other countries, a fieldtrip to Elephantine island in Aswan, and interactive workshops.
